My Favorite Horror Podcasts
I was delighted to participate in the StokerCon 2025 panel “Horror Podcasts: Conversations that Feed the Genre,” moderated by Scott Sigler. Guest of Honor Scott Edelman of the Eating the Fantastic podcast was joined by David Cummings of The NoSleep Podcast, Stephanie Gagnon of the Books in the Freezer podcast, and yours truly. I have a background in broadcast journalism, and while I do not have a podcast, I have been on around two dozen podcasts in varying formats—one-to-one interview, roundtable discussion, an author reading of one's own work, and podcast narration of original or reprint work.
We discussed how podcasts build community, how authors can effectively use podcasts for marketing, and the ways in which podcasts create dialogue around important topics as well as preserve genre history.
The biggest tip I shared was for authors to hang onto the audio rights for their short works so they can submit those stories to narrative podcasts.
If a print publication has no history of producing podcasts, especially if they aren’t paying pro rates, don't give them your audio rights (or any other unnecessary rights for that matter).
And when you do have work that will be featured on a narrative audio podcast, THEY DO NOT NEED FILM/TV RIGHTS. I have walked away from audio podcasts that are asking for unnecessary film/tv rights.
I promised the panel attendees that I would share my favorite podcasts as well as ones everyone should be listening to in the genre.
As always, this clickable list is in no particular order and is not exhaustive, so don’t @ me. Please do let me know your favorites as well!
